“Let the games begin….”
These words were spoken by Ruth Unger, President of the National Mah Jongg League (NMJL), aboard the first International Mah Jongg Tournament Cruise in December 1986. Over 200 Mah Jongg players started a great tradition as they sailed the Caribbean for 7 days aboard Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines’ “Song of America.”
Twenty Four (24) incredible National Mah Jongg League/Mah Jongg Madness® Cruises followed that first cruise adventure; and in 2016 MAH JONGG MADNESS® celebrated our 31st ANNUAL ANNIVERSARY CRUISE aboard RCCL’s HARMONY OF THE SEAS.
Mah Jongg Madness® (MJM) has continued the wonderful tradition of these special Cruises, along with exciting weekend tournaments in other locations around the Country including: Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Tampa Florida, Chicagoland area, Scottsdale Arizona, Ft Lauderdale, Miami and Boca Raton Florida, Atlanta, Boston, and more. In addition, MJM runs Mini Mah Jongg Cruises and offers our unique tournament services to charitable organizations for fundraising activities. The tournaments continue to provide fun-filled, day-long and week-end events for thousands of players on a regular basis.
Every month, a monthly Newsletter featuring questions and answers, and news about Mah Jongg is sent to thousands of mah jongg enthusiasts all over the mah jongg-playing world. We look forward to our 32nd ANNIVERSARY MAH JONGG MADNESS® CRUISE aboard the HARMONY OF THE SEAS in December 2017.
Dorothy Krams and her husband Larry, founded Mah Jongg Madness® cruises and tournaments on December 1, 1985.
They began by offering unique and specialized weekend ventures, that combined Mah Jongg with the opportunity to visit terrific locations around the Country. Their first major Mah Jongg venture was in December of 1986, when in conjunction with the National Mah Jongg League – they organized the first ever “Mah Jongg Cruise 1986.”
Mah Jongg Madness’ activities continued to thrive under Dorothy and Larry's leadership.
In 2005, Gladys Grad–Klinsky and Phil Klinsky joined Dorothy and Larry, helping them to conduct tournaments, cruises and events. As a result of their association with Dorothy and Larry, Gladys has been recognized as the Country’s foremost authority on tournament rules and standards, and is known as “the Grand Master of American Mah Jongg.”
In January of 2011, Gladys and Phil took over the operations of Mah Jongg Madness®.
Along with Mah Jongg Inc, Specialty Cruises and Events, Mah Jongg Master Points®, and Mah Jongg Academy®, Mah Jongg Madness® is a Division of Stock Distributors Inc and/or G & G Tournaments and Events, Inc.
TO DOROTHY AND LARRY - WE SEND YOU OUR LOVE AND OUR THANKS
Until February 1990, the company was located in the Los Angeles area. Dorothy and Larry decided it was time toreturn to their roots in Florida and settled in Paradise - Sarasota, Florida - on the Gulf of Mexico.
When Dorothy passed away from breast cancer in 2005, Larry promised he would continue the Mah Jongg tradition that was her vision, so that her many friends could continue the fun and camaraderie of this wonderful game.
Larry passed away and joined his beloved Dorothy August 2011.
IN LOVING MEMORY......OF DOROTHY KRAMS, A PORTION OF THE PROFITS FROM ALL OUR EVENTS WILL BE DONATED TO VARIOUS BREAST CANCER CAUSES
